The Election Commission of India will formally launch the e-EPIC (Electronic Electoral Photo Identity Card) programme on Monday (January 25), the National Voter's Day.

e-EPIC is a non-editable secure portable document format (PDF) version of the EPIC and will have a secured QR code with image and demographics like serial number, part number, etc.

e-EPIC (Digital Voter ID cards) can be downloaded on a mobile or a computer and can be digitally stored. This is in addition to physical IDs being issued for fresh registration.

The e-EPIC (Digital Voter ID Card) initiative would be launched in two phases. In the first phase from January 25 to 31, all new voters who have applied for the voter-ID card and registered their mobile numbers in Form-6 will be able to download the e-EPIC by simply authenticating their mobile number.

The mobile numbers should be unique and not be previously registered in the ECI's electoral rolls.

Second phase will start on 1 February 2021. It will be open for the general voters. All those who have given their mobile numbers (linked one) they can also download their e-EPIC", said ECI official.

The delays, losing cards and not been able to get digital voter ID cards is an issue that won't be there. Moreover, most of the ID cards are moving on the digital platform.

The digitalisation of voter-ID card will have a special significance in the upcoming polls in five states— Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Assam.

  • The e-voter card is available in the PDF format which cannot be edited. It can be self-printed and laminated by the voter when required.
  • The ID card can be stored on mobile phones and downloaded on personal computers. They can also be saved in facilities such as digital locker.
  • The digital card will eliminate the need for a voter to get a new card made each time there is a change in address on account of migration.
  • Voters who have lost or damaged their EPIC card will be able to download duplicate cards for free. Currently, this facility entails a payment of Rs 25.
  • Alternate and faster mode of obtaining Electoral Photo Identity Card in a digital format
  • Equally valid as a proof of document for voter identification
  • Can be printed at the convenience of the voter and can bring it as proof during polling

The applicant must first register himself on https://www.nvsp.in/EEPIC

  • Next, you have to log in to https://www.nvsp.in/EEPIC With Login Details
  • After this, many options will be seen on the website. From which you have to click on the option of  Download e-EPIC 
  • After this, OTP will come on the registered mobile number, which will have to be put on the web portal.
  • After this, your digital voter ID will be downloaded in PDF format.
